The Grammar 5 Handbook follows The Grammar 4 Handbook, consolidating earlier learning and introducing further grammar, spelling and punctuation. It provides a full programme intended for children aged 9–10. For learners of English as an additional language, select the level according to prior learning and readiness.

The handbook contains 36 spelling lessons and 36 grammar and punctuation lessons for a full year of teaching. Each lesson includes a photocopiable worksheet, with additional resources for extension activities and revision.

Topics include revision of earlier learning; spelling strategies and patterns for complex words; further suffixes and prefixes; perfect tenses; adverbs; regular and irregular past participles; prepositional phrases; transitive and intransitive verbs; phrasal verbs; adjective order; sentence boxes for understanding sentence structure; and punctuation including colons, bullet points and brackets.
