• これらのブルーレベルブック（第4レベル）のテキストでは、これまでに学習した文字と音の知識（42の主要な文字の音と、主要な代替的な文字・音の綴り：happy の「y」、長母音を表す「e」を飛び越える綴り、day の「ay」、seat の「ea」、fly や high の「y」や「igh」、low や now の「ow」、ew など）を用いた、解読可能な規則的な単語のみが使用されています。day のような「ay」、seat のような「ea」、fly や high のような「y」や「igh」、low や now のような「ow」、dew のような「ew」、joy のような「oy」、bird や turn のような「ir」や「ur」、そして「al」、 『au』や『aw』（talk、pause、saw など））、そして少数の「トリッキーワード」（この段階では完全に解読できない、頻繁に使われる単語）が含まれています。
 
• 新たに登場するすべてのトリッキーワードと、代替母音の綴りは、表紙の内側に記載されています。これらは、本書を読み始める前の簡単な練習課題として活用できます。
 
• 「lamb」の‹b›のように、発音されない文字には薄い文字が使用されています。
 
• 本の最後には、理解度確認の質問やディスカッションのトピックが掲載されています。これらにより、子どもたちが単にテキストを読むだけでなく、その意味を理解できるようになります。
 
The text in these Blue Level Books (fourth level) uses only decodable regular words that use the letter-sound knowledge taught so far: the 42 main letter sounds and the main alternative letter-sound spellings (‹y› as in happy, the ‘hop-over ‹e›’ spellings of the long vowel sounds, ‹ay› as in day, ‹ea› as in seat, ‹y› and ‹igh› as in fly and high, ‹ow› as in low and now, ‹ew› as in dew, ‹oy› as in joy, ‹ir› and ‹ur› as in bird and turn, and ‹al›, ‹au› and ‹aw› as in talk, pause and saw) and a small number of tricky words (frequently used words that are not fully decodable at this stage).
• All new tricky words and alternative vowel spellings used are shown on the front inside cover. These can be used as a quick practice activity before starting the book. • Faint type is used for silent letters, like the ‹b› in lamb.
• Comprehension questions and discussion topics are included at the end of the book.
 
These ensure that children are not only able to read the text, but also get meaning from it.
