『ジョリーフォニックス・フォークテイルズ・リーダーズ』は、世界中の伝統的な民話を再構成したものです。語彙は極めて慎重に選定されており、ジョリーフォニックスを用いて読み書きを学んでいる生徒のために特別に設計されています。
 
 このイエロー・レベルの書籍の本文では、デコード可能な規則的な単語（ジョリー・フォニックスの第1段階で教えられる42の文字の音、および「happy」や「sunny」のような単語の末尾にある「y」の代替音で構成される単語）のみが使用されており、少数のトリッキー・ワード（この段階では完全にデコードできないが頻繁に使用される単語）が含まれています。
 
 新しく登場する「トリッキーワード」や、異なる母音の綴り方はすべて、表紙の内側に記載されています。これらは、本を読む前に簡単な練習課題として活用できます。
 
「lamb」の「b」のように、発音されない文字には薄い文字が使用されています。
 
本の最後には、理解度確認の質問やディスカッションのトピックが掲載されています。
これらにより、生徒たちはテキストを読むだけでなく、その意味を理解できるようになります。
 
Jolly Phonics Folktales Readers are retellings of traditional folktales from around the world. They have a very carefully controlled vocabulary and are specifically designed for students who are learning to read and write with Jolly Phonics. The text in these Yellow Level Books (second level) uses only decodable regular words (words that are made up from the 42 letter sounds taught in the first stage of Jolly Phonics, along with the alternative sound of ‹y› at the end of words like happy and sunny), and a small number of tricky words (frequently used words that are not fully decodable at this stage).
 
All new tricky words and alternative vowel spellings used are shown on the front inside cover. These can be used as a quick practice activity before starting the book. Faint type is used for silent letters, like the ‹b› in lamb.
 
Comprehension questions and discussion topics are included at the end of the book. These ensure that students are not only able to read the text, but also get meaning from it.
